As you may have noticed, we like to blow stuff up on this channel. So when the International Red Cross approached us to collaborate on a video about nuclear weapons, we were more than excited.
Until we did the research. It turned out we were a bit oblivious off the real impact of nuclear weapons in the real world, on a real city. And especially, how helpless even the most developed nations on earth would be if an attack occurred today.
So hopefully this video demonstrates how extremely non fun a real world nuclear attack would be, without being too gruesome. This collaboration was a blast (no pun intended) and we want to say a huge thank you to the International Red Cross!

Vice made a video called "How to Buy Nukes on the Black Market". were Shane Smith goes to Bulgaria (a super capitalist country in south east europ) and talks to a guys selling them. mutual assured destruction is stopping goverments from dropping nuclear bombs on each others. what is stopping a school shooter from getting a really big weapon in Bulgaria? i have a hard time seeing how signing this, is making anything safer. Nice vidio tho :)

You censor out what I say. I speak the truth. We fry out wasp nests because wasps sting our children in our schools. Japanese weren’t wasps. But wasps didn’t butcher over 30 million innocent women children babies. Japanese soldiers did. And they came from THAT nest in Hiroshima. Hiroshima was the headquarters of Japanese Southern Army. They implanted their military base amidst a city. The Japanese used their own civilians as human shields and cannon fodder. In August 1945, the Japanese still brutally enslaved almost all of Asia. We can’t let the enemy kill millions more people. Fry the nest and win the war. As simple as that. Japanese soldiers said killing my family was like killing insects. Americans returned the favor with equal disinterest when they incinerated their nests.

You missed the real ultimate consequences... that city was surrounded by three nuclear power plants and each of them and all of their spent fuel pools are now in full meltdown sending up enormous clouds of radiation throughout the entire world...

Also if the roads are made of Tar; like most are in London, they will also ignite and melt. He stated it depended how high the warhead exploded? But if it was a ground burst, totally forget the subway! The blast along with the heat would travel through the tunnels until there is an outlet, probably at the end of the line, this would be on all levels and all stations, of course, your probably be buried alive and in total darkness, if you did survive up to that point?

I agree that nuclear weapons are bad. Unfortunately, if, for example, the U.S. got rid of all nuclear weapons, whose to say other nations wouldn't. Even if they publicly did, how many would they keep in private. In today's society, the reality is that the only thing keeping nations from launching against other nations is that they would be launched on in return.

You can't get every country to vow not to have nukes. If even one country keeps their's then everyone else needs to have them to ensure that they can't be threatened with them.

Not really worried about a nuclear war. Only country I can see launching a nuke is some islamic country. Even then it's unlikely also no country is going to dismantle all their nukes because we still have hostile countries and the only war to deter a nuclear war is by having nukes. Most countries won't even think about launching a nuke because of the backlash that will occur. China, and russia won't launch a nuke because china know they will be attack by the US and russia won't because Putin is not a dumbass/NATO. Also the US can't launch a nuke bacause of how split our congress is. Their are more reason but these are the one I can think of off the top of my head.

"and what you can do about them" Uh, nothing. The splitting of the atom is like the first time a light bulb was turned on or the invention of gunpowder. A moment in human invention that can not be undone. We can only hope we continue to be just barely smart enough to realize that if we start throwing nukes, even the most powerful of people with their finger on the button, are also fucked right along with the rest of us. That's what's kept us from killing off our own species so far. One thing I noticed about this vid: you give off numbers of blast radii, fallout exposure distance, thermal front coverage....but all these things are based highly on the type of nuclear device being detonated and the yield. I would think for the most powerful of weapons, your number are correct. But most nuclear devices, especially the kind of devices a terrorist would get their hands on (the most likely scenario for one nuke being detonated in a city without warning), are much smaller in yield, sophistication and delivery method.

Right now we need nuclear weapons but not for any wartime purpose. Right now, they are our only true defense against an impact event. They may not work but they are our species best chance as of right now. We need to stop pointing our nukes at each other and point them to the real threat. Until we devise a plan to deal with an impact scenario sans nukes, we need them. They may very well save our species one day.

I find this video... runs into the issue of People. So long as there is perceived threat there will always be someone grabbing a bigger club, and some nations can exist only because of their ownership of a atomic arsenal. Well intended but just dropping your biggest stick doesn't change the perceived threat from the other party.
